The Praties They Grow Small

Single release 29th September. Available to stream and download from all popular platforms šŸŽµ

The Praties They Grow Small is the first single from Queen Graceā€™s forthcoming debut album From The North Country. This is a haunting rendition of traditional Irish folk song written c.1850s at the beginning of The Great Famine in Ireland. It is a song about the growing desperation of the first year of the failure of the potato crop. The main source of substance of the underclasses at the time. The single is accompanied by a music video made from 100 year old archive news footage about The Great Famine, produced by Queen Grace.

ā€œI first learned of this song when I was asked to perform it in a play about ā€˜The Great Famineā€™ in Perth, Western Australia. I listened to Caroline Hesterā€™s version from live footage in early 1960s. I found that it was similar in style and form to a traditional blues song. There is an eeriness to the song, especially when we now know the harrowing conditions that were to unfold in the coming months and years after this song was written .ā€ – Queen Grace

The single will be available to stream and download from all popular platforms from Friday 29th September. 5% of profits from the single and single merch will go to Foyle Food Bank (Derry), another 5% to World Food Programme.
